My kids often complain that they are always the last ones to get whatever item is the latest craze. They usually seem to get this "in" item just as it's headed "out".
Heelies were no exception. Every kid in the neighborhood had them but I kept coming up with excuse after excuse why we should not jump on this bandwagon. I was sure the kids would kill themselves as they took off running, forgetting they had wheels stuck in the heels of their tennis shoes. I also felt it was so disrespectful of kids to
Heely through grocery stores and other places of business. Fortunately for the kids, they have a Dad who carries strong persuasive powers over their mom. One day my resolve finally cracked and Aaron immediately took the kids
Heely shopping. From that moment on my children no longer walked from place to place, they would glide. I have to admit, the kids proved me wrong. They never got hurt and to their credit, they never used them when it was inappropriate. The story doesn't end there. After a couple of months of watching our children gleefully glide through life, Aaron decided that we should be the ultimate cool parents and buy a pair of
Heelies ourselves. I
vehemently disagreed. Again, I was persuasively
overruled. Following the purchase, Aaron put on his new pair of
Heelies and confidently set out to glide across the garage floor. Imagine our shock as his feet shot out from under him, he did a flippy-do in the air and he crashed head first into the cement floor. We were even more shocked (and panicked) when for the next forty minutes he couldn't remember what happened, where he was, where he worked, where we were living and several other important things. I had never been so scared in all my life. Fortunately, he came to his senses but not before Amanda had grabbed those
Heelies and hid them somewhere he'd never find them. The next day they went right back to the store. I just
knew tennis shoes on wheels were asking for trouble, but nobody listens to
me...

I'm very glad you took them back to the store!
Yikes, Aaron isn't alone though in his Heelys purchase. Our friend bought some also; he is 42 and a doctor. It was hilarious to watch him on them
And now he's riding a motorcycle ?
Oh My Gosh!!! I hate Heelys. I have been nearly mowed down by disrespectful and irresponsible kids "gliding" like idiots through malls and grocery stores! Chelsi and Robbie have them also and it scares me half to death to watch them!

Okay, sorry about the repeated comments! I was having "issues" with the whole comment thing being accepted! :)
Okay, I get it Janet. You hate Heely's!!!! Just teasing!
Nice job Aaron. Why does this story not surprise me? Let's just hope there's no permanent damage!
too late on the permanant damage, Mandy.hee hee. I think Heelys are fine for kids, because for the most part they have no fear, they just do it. Where as, us adults think too much about what can happen. Sometimes I miss being a kid-carefree.
Just out of curiosity, who is "dad"?
